The origin of the word (Egypt)
Over thousands of years , Egypt has had many names in
many different languages. Today, its official name is Junhuriyah Misr al-
Arabiya , which in English means the Arab Republic of Egypt. Egyptians
themselves refer to Egypt Misr , but it can also be a name of Cairo.
Interestingly , it is common that the Egyptians refer to Egypt Misr , if he
resides in Cairo , but if outside of Cairo , then refer to Cairo as Misr will.
In a sense, this is a custom that dates back to the early days of ancient Egypt.
