United States : The veil was not a problem in the
United States as it was in Europe. The First Amendment prohibits government
from interfering with religious clothing or preferences of individuals.
Students wear islamic clothes in public schools and state colleges largely without
controversy.
The case of Sultaana Freeman, a convert to Islam, American who beganwearing a veil in 1997, is an

all but her eyes. She refused to remove the photo of a driver's license and

requirements must be met.
