Muslim women clothes suffer from many problems in foreign
countries such as:
United States : The veil was not a problem in the
United States as it was in Europe. The First Amendment prohibits government
from interfering with religious clothing or preferences of individuals.
Students wear islamic clothes in public schools and state colleges largely without
controversy.
The case of Sultaana Freeman, a convert to Islam, American who began wearing a veil in 1997, is an
exception. Her Islamic clothes covering
all but her eyes. She refused to remove the photo of a driver's license and
sued the state of Florida, where she was a resident, the previous license her photo taken before 2001 , had been taken sailing on .
A judge of the Federal Court ruled in 2003 that the state could compel Freeman
to remove the veil for license photo . (more details)
Canada as the United States , the veil has not really
been a problem in Canada , with a few minor exceptions. Muslim girls wearing Islamic women clothes to school and state employees wear it to work. But in 2007, a 11 - year-old
Muslim girl from Ottawa was ejected from a soccer tournament for refusing to
remove her headscarf during playback. The International Football Association
Board confirmed ejection. Later this year, the province of Quebec, while the
Canadian federal authorities ruled that Muslim women wearing the full veil
covering the face were removed when determining their identity before voting.
In France : The wearing of headscarves in public schools
is prohibited. The legislation was passed in March 2004 regulating the wearing
of symbols or clothes of islamic women affiliation in public primary and
secondary schools. The law states : "In public elementary and secondary
schools, the wearing of signs or dress by which pupils overtly manifest a
religious affiliation is prohibited . The school rules shall state that the
institution of disciplinary proceedings is preceded by a dialogue with the
student. " The law applies to all public schools and educational
institutions, but not state universities.
Opposition to the ban
At the end of June 2009 , speaking to a joint session
of parliament in Versailles, Nicolas Sarkozy , the French president , said he was on the side of
prohibitionists . He used a historic speech at Versailles to declare against
individual freedom claiming to speak on behalf of women's rights .
Prohibit freedom in the name of freedom
In our country we can not
accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life,
deprived of all identity ,he said rolling applause. The burqa is
not a religious sign , it's a sign of subservience , a sign of debasement - I
want to say solemnly : It will not be welcome Islamic women clothes in French
Republic. "
